The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.
- Proverbs 16:1
What the Lord is referring to is the correct preparation. All men and women are knowingly and unknowingly preparing their hearts, but for what?
Proverbs 14:12 states "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
This passage illuminates our key scripture above it. When we choose the way that denies God and His wisdom, all our paths of life from then on end in overall disappointment and eventually spiritual death. We have knowingly and unknowingly prepared our hearts to refuse His help continually. We often find this refusal in the answer of our tongue. Out of our mouth flows the abundance of our heart.
What our heart is full of will be expelled from our mouth; whether pride, where we say, “I did this, and I did that, and I should be the one to do this," or language we can't control or unjustified negative opinions of people, etc. They all sit in our heart.
God asks us to furnish our hearts with His wisdom and beauty continually. We have the opportunity, with God, to have beautiful hearts and mouths, and His hope is that we choose that way that prepares our heart to meet Him.
Today’s Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for those scriptures that embarrass me. Sometimes my actions and words are not what you seek. Thank you for asking me to come up higher, and to refuse those things that so often detract from your beauty within me.
