613 Brad Pitt and the Christian Walk. May 7 2025

Updated: May 9

Key Scriptures: 1 John 2:13

I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

What’s the difference between Brad Pitt and the average Christian?

Quite a lot when it comes to overcoming temptations and trials.

I saw a short edited clip of Brad. He spoke so wisely that he could have been taking a class on how to defend yourself from lusts, but he wasn't. He was speaking maturely about the typical temptations that beset us all. As a renowned movie star, I found his discussion refreshing.

He was referencing lusts—those beastly deceptors that cause many Christians to fall time and time again, and even draw some away from the flock to a spiritual death.

Often, as Christians, we think we're the only ones running or defending ourselves from lusts. Yet, here is a guy who has never really looked like he is following the Lord, conducting risk assessments to safeguard himself against the same things Christians do.

The full edited clip reads like this, "I realised I was running from things to avoid tough feelings, painful feelings. That can be anything: drugs, booze, I just didn't know how to deal with them. I don't want to be running from anything. I want to sit in it, I want to feel it, I want to get through the rough night, and I found in doing so, you come out the other side with a more profound understanding of yourself and a greater gratefulness for those in your life. "

The bottom line is that Brad didn't want any lust following him that he hadn't overcome. All he uses is the strength of his mind. His armoury for battle is his mental capacity—the steel of his mind.

We don't use our minds enough in the fight against temptation, sin and being led by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. How do we love Jesus with all our minds if we won't use all our minds against sin?

Sometimes, we rely too heavily on the Holy Spirit to get us out of trouble without realising that He needs our minds to be at one with Him. We are to fight and stand in the light, not intermittently wander back into darkness. It's the only way we can get peace.

Brad seems aware of the things that can drag him down— the foods that can make him fat, the sex that can make him fall, and the greed that can make him deceive friends.

News highlights show Brad embroiled in extramarital relationships. It seems that's why he has sought to understand his capacity to fall and the enemies that make him fall. Our past is why we're saved now. It is what we ran from. But do we know our weak spots, and are we doing something about them?

As Believers, we should seek to be so renewed in our minds that we don't want to sin. We should love our Saviour so much we have no desire to return to any part of the past.

When we walk in the light, as He is in the light, it doesn't matter how far we walk; there will be no shadow. Darkness cannot come anywhere near light. Shadows only get close when we get coaxed towards them. But we don't want to, do we?

Let's hold the line and praise our Lord for all of our spiritual survival systems.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I know Brad isn't saved. It would be great if he were, but I can learn from anyone, and I'm glad I saw the clip and took down the notes. Please help me become aware of all my faults and weaknesses and overcome them.
