Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

How hungry some get for the Word of God.
This Canaanite woman came to Christ, as she had a sick daughter "grievously vexed with a devil." The disciples wanted to send her away, deciding her not worthy of speaking to Him. Jesus clarified the situation, stating that He was sent exclusively to the children of Israel, and not to the old Canaanites.
In the desperation that only a parent would know, she begged for a mere crumb of His voice, His promises, His healing power, his authority over all things. A mere crumb!
That foreign woman KNEW that this was the Son of God and that He alone was the only source of real help for her child.
She also knew what they thought of her, a common dog that had no interest in treating the Word of God with respect.
She had to prove them otherwise; that she was different; that she was a believer. "All I want is a crumb of your Authority over evil. Your Word is so powerful, with that mere crumb my daughter will be healed. I Believe!"
When Jesus heard that, how did He respond? Verse 28, "Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour."
Great is our faith when we acknowledge that a mere crumb of the Word is sufficient to change a life.
That woman prepared herself for any crumb; it did not matter to her. In her heart, she held that if Christ spoke any word over her child, she would be healed completely. That faith and belief in who Christ was, got her hopes granted by the King of Kings, "be it unto thee as thou wilt".
How powerful is the Word of God to you? Could you rely on a crumb to change a life?
Job 23:12 states, "...I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food." Today's Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the power in your Word. Thank you for all the biblical stories where your Word has changed so many lives. Where it has healed so many people of a myriad of woes. Please help me today to esteem your Word higher and more significant than I currently do, and to hold it up so high that I would look on a mere crumb as if it were a kilogram of gold.
