Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
- Psalm 143:10
King David, again under persecution, writes Psalm 143. In this short line above, he challenges his spirit, when he says, teach me to do THY Will.
We could assemble seven major denominations and ask them to write out the Lord's Will. We would get seven versions returned, due to human interference in God's Will.
We could then get seven smaller churches, including home fellowships, and get them to do similar, and we would get similar upon return.
We cry out to God, "I delight to do thy Will O' Lord" and yet, what we mean is, "I delight to do thy Will according to how our church sees it".
We attend various churches, all who say they do the Lord's Will, yet, find a mixture of wills. Some don't believe in Tongues, despite half of christianity speaking in tongues. Other's don't think you get into the Kingdom without tongues. I have talked to Christians who are as committed as any I have met, who believe that all writings before the Book of Acts are now null and void. When asked what the gospel is, some churches say it is simply Jesus Christ, yet scripture states the gospel was preached to Moses and his troupe in the desert experience (For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Hebrew 4:2). There is a plethora of misunderstanding, and it is challenging for all of us.
If the Lord is to teach us His Will, our minds must first be open to it. This closed-mind syndrome was the reason the Apostle Paul hid himself to rid himself — of all his presuppositions.
He de-educated himself and re-educated himself without the writings of the 'fathers'. Paul was bold enough to face the fear of an incorrect spiritual education and to challenge the spirit within him that it needed to be changed. Only then, was he enabled to emerge and conquer his world.
How does the Lord teach us His Will?
Firstly, to learn anything, we must be prepared to be educated and changed. As we read the Bible, we get an idea that God's Will for us includes both spiritual and natural aspects. God's Will encompasses all manner of life. It also includes head knowledge and experience. We must enter the experiences as Part B of the training. Otherwise, we remain hollow inside with little to give. We end up deficient in terms of spiritual growth and natural living. We stay stunted.
As we read the Word of God, we see His Will written out for us, in some areas it is clear, and in other areas it seems more obscure. John the Baptist gave us an idea of learning the Lord's Will. He said, "I must decrease, and He must increase".
To be taught another's Will, our Will needs to diminish, yet little bits of us resist. It is those areas we could open up to the Holy Spirit and be honest in our request.
Today's Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the areas of your Will that you have shared with me. Please help me humble myself to accept Your Will as you deliver it to me, and thank you again for your patience.
