And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

- Genesis 1:3

When God made the earth, He also made this statement. He brought light into being in a world without form (Strong's H8414 vanity and confusion) and void (Strong's H922 emptiness).  When we think of people whose world is without Christ, it is also one of vanity, confusion and emptiness. There is thick darkness surrounding each of us before Christ enters our life. We understand not that there is a light which can illuminate our way and fill our hearts to replace the existing emptiness.

Every person born into this world has a void in their hearts. Their way — how they do life  —  is without form — it is full of vanity and confusion. Suicides, divorces and breakdowns hourly, and a plethora of psychologists and psychiatrists worldwide attest to the fact of this condition.  They are void of understanding. although they think they are not. We all were!  When we let Christ in, what comes with Him?  John 1:4-5 says about Christ, "In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." Without Christ, we do not have life, although we think we do. We cannot comprehend either the wonders of God or the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Christ brings the light that all men and women so desperately need to fill that ever-aching void we find difficult to identify. He brings life to our dead souls. Light is an essential ingredient to comprehend the realities of this world as well as the next. The darkness, which covers our understanding like a veil upon our hearts, disappears when the light enters. Darkness cannot stand in the same room as light. As that timeless song Amazing Grace states, I was blind, but now I see! When God made the earth, He first made light. This light illuminated the new land for the rest of civilisation to be brought into being. God designed and landscaped, adding all the critical elements for a maturely developed world.  Likewise, when Christ enters our world, the Holy Spirit begins on a full redevelopment of our formless, void-ridden hearts, filling them with wisdom, wonders, blessings and love; exactly the elements needed to bring us to maturity.

Today’s Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for making light, without which I wouldn't not be able to see at all. Thank you also for the light of life, Jesus Christ, without whom I would be dead in the darkness of my sins and blind to salvation.
