Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
- Philippians 4:8
How, in a world filled with so much corruption, do we keep our minds on the concept of this scripture?
True, honest, just, pure, lovely, good report?
These sound like an advertisement for utopia (not the ABC comedy), not the world we live within.
Paul told us in Galatians 5 what the makeup of the world is: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like.
All the great things about our societies came from the Bible or those who followed its principles. Even nice people who don't know Christ, don't understand that the Bible is the foundation for many of their behaviours.
When we focus on those good things in our scripture; I mean, really focus on them to ensure mind-change it reshapes our brain.
There is sufficient data now that tells us our brain is elastically put together, which can be re-moulded by different thinking. Furthermore, when we stop focussing on negative things and being focusing on positive things, our neural pathways re-develop, increasing our mental progress.
Neuroscientists, such as Caroline Leaf, are now finding out why the Bible instructs us to set our mind's desires upon these things. They transform us into peaceful, loving, and mentally capable people, able to handle all sorts of stressors with greater ease.
If we followed scripture's direction above, we would see the change in ourselves we thought impossible!
Today’s prayer: Dear Lord, thank you that scientists are finding out the wonders of scripture and necessity for following it. Please help me to focus on the change in my own mind, and to concentrate on redeveloping my mind to suit the above scripture.
