And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
- Genesis 4:1
I wonder how many times Eve regretted saying this?
Eve did get a man from the Lord, but how did he mould himself?
Cain was the first person to be born on this earth as we know it. Abel was born not long after him. Cain's father, Adam, was the only model of a man he had, so how did he grow so disrespectful?
Cain grew to be a son who disobeyed God’s Word. When God asked for a specific type of sacrifice, Cain brought an entirely different kind and thought that would be fine. He felt his desires and aims were the same as God’s but found they were not, as God was not satisfied with what he presented. Scripture says that Cain had no respect for the offering he gave. (Gen 4)
We shouldn’t make the same mistake! We can attend Church and even fill the offering plate with money, when really the Lord is looking for our heart.
We can be reared in a believing family, as was Cain, and think we have a relationship with God, as did Cain. If we don’t have respect for what God requires, we may not have the relationship we think we have.
God asks for our ‘all’, but it starts small and grows into giving Him everything we have, through love for Him. The closer we get to Him, the greater He becomes to us. We can’t help falling in love with Him.
Today’s Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for being as close to me as you are. Please help me to come closer to you and give you 100% of my life, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
