KEY SCRIPTURES: Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
RELEVANCE
Have you ever filled out a Bucket List? A list of all the things you've missed out on so far and would like to achieve before you die?
I heard a fellow suggest that filling out one of those can heighten our sense of ingratitude. He said it reminds us of all the things that have been out of reach but we still desire.
He proposes we first look at all the things we have done and be grateful for the fact that we've lived fairly well up to this moment. Reflect on your life's journey and consider all the experiences, both big and small, that have shaped you into the person you are today.
He added that we all have dreams and things we wish to accomplish, and having a Bucket List is not wrong. However, he would rather we develop a Reverse Bucket List, highlighting everything we HAVE done up to this point and showing deep gratitude for them as a greater priority.
The godly characteristic of Gratitude is best honoured by those who are grateful—who easily recall the blessings and what God has done for them through the more challenging times. Christians should be experts in the art of gratitude. We should be the most grateful people on earth. If we're not, we can be.
I'm a big endorser of thanksgiving and praise. These two weapons of warfare bring joy and peace to the forefront of our daily battles, trampling on the negative seeds of disillusionment and feelings of why bother.
I think Jesus would love to see us write a LARGE List of everything His death and resurrection did for us, of the freedom and astonishing future He promised us, whether we fulfil a Bucket List or not.
Why don't you begin a Reverse Bucket List? Make it long with plenty of lines, and keep it on the fridge so everyone in the household can add to it—like a grocery list but far more profitable.
PRAYER
My Lord, you have saved me so many times from myself and continue to teach and guide me through life. What could I find to complain about? All praise and glory to you, my Saviour.
